TOHATSU 40hp TLDI® Overview:

The Tohatsu 40 TLDI® (Two-Stroke Low-Pressure Direct Injection) is one of the world's smallest engines available with air-assisted direct injection technology. Tohatsu's award-winning TLDI engines are powered by a direct fuel injection system and a 32 bit ECU (Engine Control Unit). The ECU gives precise fuel injection instructions in accordance to the operating conditions detected by the multiple sensors located throughout the engine.

This outboard has all of the benefits of 21st century technology for the new generation boater without compromising power or performance. Tohatsu added this new low-pressure air/fuel delivery system to the proven conventional 40hp engine block to give you an outboard superior to all others. It provides exceptional fuel savings over 4-Strokes and conventional 2-Strokes alike and lower emissions keep this engine environmentally friendly.

The Tohatsu 40 TLDI® weighs up to 15% less than competitive 4-stroke outboards and meets or exceeds all EPA regulations that became standard in 2006 as well as all CARB (California Air Resource Board) requirements through 2007 and beyond.

Easy Maintenance: The TLDI® line of outboards are designed to be simple and have fewer components that need maintenance or service. TLDI® model engines do not require oil filter replacements or valve adjustments as compared with similar hp four-stroke outboards.

32-BIT ECU (Engine Control Unit)
The ECU controls fuel injection and ignition timing in accordance to operating conditions detected by multiple sensors located throughout the engine.


Adjustable RPM Idle/Troll Speed
The idle speed can be set to any of the three rpm ranges, 700, 800 or 900, by simply adjusting it on the key switch. Select the ideal trolling speed for maximum maneuverability in a variety of conditions.
